Why change from T Cards and paper muster lists?
T cards work until a gust of wind blows them on the ground or someone changes the wrong card and paper systems rely on people updating them correctly. With a multi-cultural workforce, confusion and misunderstanding during a muster checkers roll call can result in mistakes. The information has to be communicated to the muster control constantly which increases the workload and the opportunity for mistakes.
Using the Smart-Trac Mustering System, information is automatically updated for each muster checker which eliminates unnecessary radio communications and the opportunity for mistakes. The system provides positive recognition for both the muster checker and the individual being mustered. Smart-Trac has consistently reduced the time taken to perform a muster and is guaranteed 100% accurate. What happens if the power fails?
Smart-Trac is hosted on an independent network and is fully supported by an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) so that every piece of equipment will continue to operate during a complete power failure.
Can Smart-Trac be used in an explosive environment?
Yes, the system can be configured for use in explosive environments throughout the world.

Who teaches the crew how to use the system?
Training is one of the most important aspects of any new system installation; there are a number of different user groups who each receive specific training at the correct level for their degree of involvement with the system’s operation and the equipment they will have to use. All the emergency teams receive personal training on the equipment, the system operation and are provided with step-by-step instruction guides. A comprehensive training programme is scheduled so that each shift and rotation receives the same level of training and support.
What if someone musters at the wrong place?
Personnel can muster at any muster point and the system will account for them correctly. The muster checker at the person’s allocated muster point will see that they have been accounted for and so will the muster controller.
How much does it cost? Each system is custom built to suit the end users’ needs; we can provide an accurate estimate based on specific information and assumptions without a site survey. A full site survey is required before each system is built.
How long does it take to install a system?
The actual on-site installation can be completed within one week depending on the system configuration. As much work as possible is completed prior to mobilisation so that the offshore installation time is kept to a minimum.

What if something goes wrong?
The system is engineered with redundancy so that if one piece of equipment should fail, there is always a back-up. EPIC provide a class leading support service and undertake remote system checks every week and store a database back-up offsite as part of the service.
Where can the system be used?
Smart-Trac has been used in the majority of the world’s oil and gas areas including Russia, UKCS, Norway, West Africa, the Far East, Australasia, the Gulf of Mexico and Brazil. The system applications include drilling rigs, flotels, pipelay vessels, fixed production installations, FPSO’s, DSV’s and accommodation barges.
Does the system track people’s physical movements?
No, Smart-Trac does not track someone’s physical location. A “big brother” type system is very unpopular with people and therefore leads to them not being used. Smart-Trac is a safety system logging POB levels and muster attendance.
Does Smart-Trac monitor when people start and finish work?
No, it is not a work monitoring system, Smart-Trac is a safety system.
